Super Easy Vegan Meat Sauce (6 Ingredients)
Growing up in an Italian household, I remember the aroma of my mother’s meat sauce filling the house at dinnertime. It was quite the undertaking, as it involved making it a day ahead of time so it had time to simmer and rest–after all, sauce is always better the next day.
This meat sauce recipe? It’s not quite as much of a production–though I’m not saying you couldn’t make it the day before you want it. In fact, it’s so easy to make that you could probably have it whipped up in less than 30 minutes. And if you love Beyond Meat, you’re gonna like this sauce a lot.
I opted to use the Beyond patties because, well, that’s what I had on hand. If you have the block of Beyond Beef, I see no reason why you couldn’t use that as long as you double all the other ingredients. You’ll just end up with four servings of sauce instead of two.
I love to stock up on staples like Beyond Burgers whenever I see them on sale, knowing I can just stick them in the freezer and pull out a package whenever I need a quick meal. When you’re a vegan on a budget, the freezer is your best friend!
This sauce is also versatile. I’ve tried it on pasta and pizza so far, and both were outstanding! I’ve yet to try it on a garbage plate, but I’m thinking it would be absolutely delicious.
So please enjoy this simple recipe, from my kitchen to yours. Mangia!
Super Easy Vegan Meat Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp oil I used olive oil
- 1 8 oz package (2 patties) Beyond or Impossible burger thawed or frozen, see notes*
- 4 garlic cloves minced
- 1 cup marinara sauce of choice more as needed
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat with 1 tablespoon oil. Add the Beyond or Impossible patties and cook for 4 minutes per side* or until cooked through. Break up with spatula, and move to one side of the pan.
- Add the minced garlic to the other side of the pan and cook until fragrant, stirring occasionally, for 1-2 minutes. Stir the garlic into the Beyond meat.
- Add marinara sauce and stir. Simmer until hot, 2-3 minutes. If it's too thick, add a bit more marinara sauce to thin it out.
- Serve the sauce over pasta or a garbage plate, in lasagna, on pizza, or anything else your heart desires!
