Levels of Plant-Based Living: And Why Being Vegan Still Matters

Hi everyone! I apologize for the lack of posting. 2025 was a bit of a whirlwind for me–between a family loss and life changes, it’s been a lot to handle. I haven’t forgotten about you, dear audience. I still hope that, despite the lack of posting, my site has still provided value to you.
It would seem that veganism is regressing a bit, and I don’t think I’m the only one who’s noticed it. My Aldi no longer even carries veggie burgers. The Impossible Slider is no longer an option on the menu at White Castle.
And these are just a few examples; vegan options appear to be rolling back and while it is a concern, it does not make it impossible to be vegan, vegetarian, or plant-based.
In fact, it makes it all the more important for me to continue posting, for us to continue showing companies that vegans still exist and we aren’t going anywhere.
There are different levels of plant-based living, which I will outline below, and I think that all of them are valid in their own right.
After all, any amount of plant-based choices you make are better than doing nothing. In the words of a recent TikTok I saw, if you “could go vegan except for cheese,” then go vegan, except for cheese. Or hamburgers. Or fill in the blank.

Different levels of plant-based living:
- Flexitarian: A flexitarian is a person who eats a vegan/vegetarian diet, but occasionally eats meat, fish or dairy. This itself could be a spectrum, ranging from those who participate in things like Meatless Monday to those who eat mostly plant-based and have the occasional indulgence.
- Pescatarian: A pescatarian is a person who consumes no meat, but does consume fish. This person could decide for themselves whether or not to consume eggs or dairy products.
- Vegetarian: A vegetarian is a person who consumes no meat or fish, but consumes dairy and eggs. Lacto vegetarians consume dairy but no eggs or other animal products. Ovo vegetarians consume eggs but no dairy or other animal products.
- Vegan: Vegans are the strictest on this list, avoiding all animal products including meat, fish, dairy and eggs. Vegans also avoid honey, though I’ve seen it debated within the community.
Wherever you fall on this list, I want you to know that your choices matter. For the animals, for your health, and for the planet.
