Eco-Friendly Apps: 5 Tools You Can Install For Free Right Now

What if I told you that planet-conscious change could be right at your fingertips? Today, I’m going to show you how.

I did some research on the eco-friendly apps available, and today I’m going to share five of my favorite ones with you, all of which I have tried myself.

All the apps I’m going to share with you today are completely free to download and available on the Apple App Store. Most are available on Google Play as well (I will make a note of which specific apps are available where).

Without further ado, let’s get into the apps:

1. GreenFi (Apple & Google Play)

I love GreenFi for many reasons, not the least of which is their “Pay What Is Fair” system for monthly fees, which allows you to set your own monthly fee charge between $0 and $20 a month (10% of which goes to charitable causes).

GreenFi also participates in 1% For The Planet, and rewards you for shopping at climate-conscious businesses.

You can also choose to have them round up your debit card purchases with “Plant Your Change” to help plant trees.

So there’s a lot to love about GreenFi! If you’re interested, check them out here via my referral link. If you join and add $200 via Direct Deposit, we’ll both get $75 and help plant 25 trees!

2. Ecosia (Apple & Google Play)

I’ve switched mostly to Ecosia for my search engine needs, and there’s so many reasons to love it (not the least of which is being able to opt out of AI overviews!)

Roughly 45 searches on Ecosia is enough to fund the planting of one tree. If you’re anything like me, you use search engines every day for anything from online shopping, to recipes, to image searches and more. Ecosia does it all!

Another thing about Ecosia is that 100% of their profits go toward climate action, with most of it going towards planting trees.

It’s probably the easiest switch to make out of all the apps in this list. Check it out here!

3. Boycott That (Apple)

Looking for a shortlist of companies to avoid/support based on animal cruelty, sustainability, and human rights reasons? This is the perfect app for you!

This app gives you not only brands and companies to avoid (whether they test on animals, use animal ingredients, or are bad for the environment), but also offers suggestions you can try instead.

I love this app’s simple interface and user-friendly format. It’s the perfect pocket guide to cruelty-free and sustainable choices!

4. Earth Hero (Apple & Google Play)

Earth Hero is a great app for tracking your own personal carbon footprint. It also gives you actionable steps to reduce it!

In the app, you can set an Emissions Target to reduce your overall pollution. Browse their different actions to try to reduce your number!

I love that this app gives you a Progress Summary as well as shows you your Relative Emissions, which makes your progress towards fighting climate change feel more tangible.

The app also has a community section, and helpful articles to read about sustainablility and climate change.

5. Buy Nothing (Apple & Google Play)

The Buy Nothing app is like a virtual group for hand-me-downs. Everything is local, meaning you can choose which location to search for Asks and Gives and acquire no-longer-needed items for free.

As of this writing, the app boasts keeping 6.2 million pounds worth of items out of landfills. And it gives new life to items that would otherwise be tossed.

If you see a Give you like, you can directly message the person who has it to arrange a pickup. Or if you don’t see what you’re looking for, post an Ask to see if anyone nearby might have something useful.

I hope you found this post useful, and that you check out some of these apps! And I hope that you will find some solace in contributing to climate relief.

Have a blessed day. See you next time!
